As well as welcoming students from around the world to BU, we’re committed to helping you travel during your studies. There are various ways for you to see the world with BU, from overseas study exchanges and work placements, to volunteering and research opportunities.

Take a look at our partner institutions around the world, or read about some of our students’ experiences overseas.

Partnership type

Student exchange – We have many global partners that accept our students on exchanges, and that send students to BU on an exchange programme.

Student placement – Our students go on placement all over over the world and come back with amazing stories of their experiences.

Research – We collaborate with a range of institutions to deliver world-leading research.

Erasmus+ partnerships – The Erasmus+ programme facilitates staff exchanges and student exchanges within the EU for educational study, work placements, voluntary activities and additional training.

Recognition – Students from these universities are eligible to apply to study for a BU award after completing pathway programmes in their home country.

Expand your horizons

We encourage all of our students, both undergraduate and postgraduate, to see the world during their time with us. International experiences can not only enhance your skills, but also help you develop a well-rounded world view and appreciation of other cultures.

Study exchanges with our partner institutions are just one of the options if you don’t want to take time out of your course, or you could participate in an intensive course such as Study China or Study India.

Make the most of your summer holiday by joining a summer school overseas, or using that time to volunteer on a project that you’re passionate about.

Work experience can really bolster your CV, and spending time at a company overseas will add yet another dimension to your skillset. Our Careers & Employability Service can help you look for appropriate jobs abroad, and give you tips on how to approach companies you’d like to work for.

If your course is research focused, you may benefit from joining an overseas field trip to assist on a project, or attend a conference overseas to interact with your peers from around the globe and share your research more widely.

There are also opportunities to go global without leaving BU, such as by studying a language. Learning a new language can look great on your CV and is incredibly rewarding on a personal level too.
